The Focus to Cure Diabetes Foundation has funded and continues to support several different research efforts and projects that are working towards a cure for type 1 diabetes:

• The University of Virginia Transplant Center for Cellular Transplantation and Therapeutics, which operates the only human islet cell transplant program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• DiaKine Therapeutics, Inc., a start-up biopharmaceutical company developing new, proprietary drugs for unmet medical needs in diabetes and complications related to diabetes.

Foundation founders Paul Manning and Dr. Cindy Barber have also formed Beta Pro LLC, a biotechnology company that has established a sustainable source and distribution network of customized in vitro cellular services for use in regenerative medicine and cell replacement therapies.
