Research & Progress

The Focus to Cure Diabetes Foundation has funded and continues to support several different research efforts and projects that are working towards a cure for type 1 diabetes:

• The University of Virginia Transplant Center for Cellular Transplantation and Therapeutics, which operates the only human islet cell transplant program in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• DiaKine Therapeutics, Inc., a start-up biopharmaceutical company developing new, proprietary drugs for unmet medical needs in diabetes and complications related to diabetes.

Paul Manning has also formed GigaCyte LLC, a biotechnology company that is conducting cutting edge research on diabetes and drug discovery to help further efforts towards a cure for diabetes.
